Michael A. Liss, M.D., Ph.D., M.A.S., M.B.A., F.A.S., is a urologic oncologist and Professor at the University of California, San Diego. He focuses on the diagnosis and surgical management of prostate cancer.

Dr. Liss completed his urology residency at the University of California, Irvine, and specialized surgical urologic oncology and research training at the University of California, San Diego. The Society of Urologic Oncology-approved urologic oncology fellowship distinguishes those who have dedicated their practice to cancer, and being a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons means he has taken extra steps to demonstrate his surgical quality among his peers. He is laser-focused on the accurate diagnosis of prostate cancer, providing multiple treatment options, and is surgically skilled in robotic-assisted prostatectomy and focal therapy. While he is a surgeon, he recognizes that surgery is not suitable for every patient and takes in his ability to communicate clearly to reach a shared decision on treatment paths, with the patient leading that discussion.

He is a true surgeon-scientist, possessing the knowledge and skills to design and implement cutting-edge clinical trials not offered by other surgeons. He has led national clinical trial teams and has won numerous clinical research investigator awards from the National Cancer Institute and his previous cancer center. He is also in the top 1% of urologists the have attained funding from the National Institutes of Health for his cutting edge research.
